BAGHDAD, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi political leaders met on Thursday with visiting Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky to discuss bilateral ties and economic cooperation.
During a meeting with a delegation led by Lipavsky, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani lauded the Czech role in supporting the efforts of the Iraqi security forces in combatting terrorism, the media office of the prime minister said in a statement.
Al-Sudani also discussed with Lipavsky the means "to promote cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy, health, air transport, and scholarships, as well as ways to increase trade volume between Iraq and the Czech Republic," the statement said.
For his part, Lipavsky said a delegation of businessmen and representatives of 20 Czech companies are currently in Iraq to discuss opportunities for economic cooperation, according to the statement.
Lipavsky extended a visit invitation from the Czech president to al-Sudani to further strengthen bilateral relations, said the statement.
During his visit, Lipavsky also met with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, where the two sides discussed bilateral relations and the need to enhance cooperation and coordination in various fields, particularly in commercial, economic, and industrial sectors, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi presidency.
