UNITED NATIONS -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the arrest in South Africa of Fulgence Kayishema, one of the most wanted suspects of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, a UN spokesman said on Thursday.
According to the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, Kayishema, who had remained at large since 2001, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Paarl, South Africa, in a joint operation. (UN-Rwandan Genocide-Fugitive)

TRIPOLI -- The Libyan Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that its air force launched airstrikes on human and fuel traffickers in western Libya, in the first such operation since the Government of National Unity took office two years ago.
"This morning, the National Air Force carried out precise airstrikes against the hideouts of fuel, drug and human trafficking gangs in the western region," the ministry said in a statement. (Libya-Airstrikes-Human Smugglers)

CAIRO -- Egypt has so far taken in 121,000 Sudanese fleeing the armed clashes that broke out in Sudan on April 15, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
The data was revealed by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry during his meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in Geneva earlier in the day, the ministry said in a statement. (Egypt-Sudan-Refugees)

ADDIS ABABA -- Inter-communal violence in Ethiopia's western region of Gambela has left at least nine people dead, a local official confirmed Thursday.
The recent inter-communal violence in the regional capital of Gambela City and the region's Itang district also left 17 others injured, reported the Gambela Regional Government Press Secretariat Office, quoting President of Gambela Region Umod Ujulu as saying. (Ethiopia-Communal Violence-Casualty)
