RAMALLAH, May 26 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian was killed by Israeli soldiers on Friday after he carried out a stabbing attack in an Israeli settlement south of the West Bank city of Hebron, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement that it was notified by the Palestinian liaison office of security coordination with Israel that a Palestinian man was killed in an Israeli settlement south of Hebron, without providing more details about the incident.
Meanwhile, Israel Radio reported that a Palestinian man infiltrated the settlement of Tana Omrim by crawling under the settlement's main gate, reached a synagogue, and began to stab several Israelis at the place. One of the soldiers at the scene opened fire and neutralized the man.
An Israeli army spokesman said in a press statement that an Israeli army force arrived at the settlement and began to search for more suspects.
The stabbing attack was carried out amid growing tension between Israel and the Palestinians that has been flaring in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since early January.
More than 120 Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers and 19 Israelis were killed in attacks carried out by Palestinians this year, according to Palestinian and Israeli official statistics.
