ABU DHABI, 29th April, 2025 (WAM) -- The National Space Academy, an initiative of the UAE Space Agency, has opened registration for the second cohort of the Space Applications - Earth Observation training programme, in strategic partnership with UAE-based Space42.
The programme forms part of the Agency's efforts to build applied space expertise among Emirati professionals, researchers and graduates, with a focus on remote sensing, artificial intelligence and space data analysis. It aims to equip a new generation of Emirati engineers and scientists to support the UAE's growing space sector.
Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency, said the training reflects the country's vision to empower national talent. He noted that 70 percent of the Academy's first cohort have already been employed in the sector, underlining its impact in building specialised Emirati capabilities.
"We are preparing future engineers and scientists to lead national space projects and compete globally," Al Qubaisi said. "Investing in people is the foundation of the sector's sustainability. This initiative is key to translating knowledge into practical skills that contribute to the UAE's knowledge economy."
Hasan Al Hosani, CEO of Bayanat Smart Solutions, Space42, said the programme introduces participants to the practical convergence of AI, Earth observation and geospatial analytics - key pillars of Space42's global strategy. "This is not just technical training. It is a launchpad for the next generation of UAE space innovators," he said.
Running from 13th May to 17th July, the ten-week course is open to UAE nationals employed in public or private entities, academic researchers, and graduates in STEM, AI or programming-related fields. The programme combines lectures, workshops and hands-on training to equip participants with the skills to develop real-world remote sensing and AI-based space applications.
