Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], March 29 (ANI): AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday took a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the Waqf Amendment bill and stated that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was only at the position because he was relying on the crutches of Nitish Kumar, Chandrababu Naidu, Chirag Paswan and Jayant Chaudhary.
Further, he stated that if the 'unconstitutional' bill were not supported by four parties, then the parties would not have become a law.
'The BJP has no majority in the Lok Sabha. This government is on crutches. Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister because he's relying on the crutches of Nitish Kumar, Chandrababu Naidu, Chirag Paswan and Jayant Chaudhary,' Owaisi said, speaking to ANI.
'If these four parties do not support this unconstitutional bill, then this bill will not become a law,' he further added.
Owaisi also said that if the support for the BJP continued, the Muslims would never forgive them, further adding that the Waqf Bill would destroy the Muslim Waqf board forever.
'But if they support the BJP, I am cautioning and warning them that Muslims will never forgive them. You are supporting an unconstitutional bill which will destroy the Muslim Waqf Board forever, which will take away our Masjids, Dargahs...' Owaisi said.
He also questioned Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for removing non-Hindu employees from Tirupati Devasthanam.
'Chandrababu Naidu wants to remove non-Hindu employees from Tirupati Devasthanam. Why is he allowing non-Muslims to be made a member of the Muslim Waqf Board?...' Owaisi questioned.
Owaisi, who is also part of the JPC on the Waqf bill, joined in the symbolic protest on Friday by wearing a black armband as he offered prayers.
The Waqf Act of 1995, enacted to regulate Waqf properties, has long been criticised for issues such as mismanagement, corruption, and encroachments.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, aims to address key challenges by introducing reforms such as digitisation, enhanced audits, improved transparency, and legal mechanisms to reclaim illegally occupied properties. (ANI)
