RIO DE JANEIRO, 30th April, 2025 (WAM) -- Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, led the United Arab Emirates delegation in the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting, held from 28th to 29th April in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The UAE delegation also included Saeed Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs and the UAE's BRICS Sherpa, as well as Saleh Al Suwaidi, UAE Ambassador to Brazil.
This marks the UAE's third participation in a BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting since joining the group as a full member in 2024. The high-level meeting brought together foreign ministers from the expanded 10 member bloc to discuss pathways for strengthening peace, advancing multilateral reforms, and enhancing collective economic resilience.
In her remarks, Al Hashimy underlined the importance of strategic cooperation in a rapidly changing world. "The UAE considers BRICS a uniquely positioned forum , one that brings together diverse perspectives, fosters consensus, and enables credible responses to shared challenges. This strength must be harnessed with strategic purpose," she said.
She emphasised that sustainable peace cannot be built through isolation, but through "inclusive dialogue, economic cooperation, and regional partnership," reflecting the UAE's long-standing diplomatic approach.
Al Hashimy also emphasised the importance of revitalising multilateral institutions to make them more inclusive, effective, and reflective of today's global realities. Furthermore, Her Excellency highlighted the need to place emerging economies and youth at the centre of international decision-making.
She further underlined the UAE's economic diplomacy through the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPA), emphasising that these agreements reflect the UAE's broader vision for fostering resilience, opportunity, and shared prosperity.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Al Hashimy held a series of bilateral meetings with BRICS counterparts, focusing on strengthening partnerships across trade, investment, and multilateral cooperation.
The UAE's active participation at the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting underscores its growing role in shaping collaborative solutions to address rapid global transformations and build a more inclusive, balanced, and sustainable international environment.
