MUSCAT, 30th May, 2025 (WAM) -- The Arabic Language Educational Centre for the Gulf States (ALECGS), a body under the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS), concluded its participation in the 14th Board of Trustees meeting, held in Muscat as part of the 2025-2026 session.
The meeting was chaired by Sulaiman bin Hamoud Al Harrasi, Advisor to the Minister of Education in Oman and Chair of the Board of Trustees for the current session, and attended by Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education in the Sultanate of Oman, along with representatives from ABEGS member states.
The session marked a significant platform to review ALECGS efforts in advancing Arabic language teaching across the Gulf. Dr Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of ALECGS, extended his gratitude to Oman's Ministry of Education for its generous hosting and support, praising the spirit of Gulf educational cooperation and shared vision.
During the meeting, ALECGS presented its achievements for the 2023-2024 session, including the implementation of ten accredited programmes, six scientific studies, nine published conference papers, two hosted conferences, and participation in twelve international conferences and eight international book fairs across Arab cities.
The Centre also held nine seminars and participated in eight more, alongside ten training courses focused on the Reference Framework for Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers.
ALECGS introduced its new programmes for 2025, including studies on enhancing early childhood literacy through digital children's literature, improving Arabic language instruction for upper grades using artificial intelligence, and developing a curriculum framework based on digital citizenship. The Centre also organised linguistic competitions, educational conferences and themed meetings to support its goals.
Delegates visited key institutions in Oman, including the Specialised Institute for Vocational Training for Teachers, where they reviewed best practices in developing teaching competencies. Visits also included the Royal Opera House and historical landmarks in Muscat, highlighting the integration of educational and cultural exchange.
The board commended Oman's efforts in ensuring the meeting's success and reaffirmed support for ALECGS initiatives. Representatives emphasised the importance of collaborative educational strategies in building a unified linguistic and educational future for the Gulf region.
