Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 8 (ANI): Telangana BJP spokesperson NV Subhash took a dig at Congress over the 42 per cent OBC reservation in the local bodies and alleged that the party has not fulfilled the promises made in the Kamareddy Declaration.
Speaking to ANI on Thursday, NV Subhash said, 'What has Congress done for the people of Telangana? Telangana BJP wants to ask about the Kamareddy Declaration, which was given before the Assembly election. There were 25 promises in it, out of which the Congress has not fulfilled even one promise.'
Further, he asked the Congress to fulfil at least 20 promises mentioned in the declaration.
'If you work for the upliftment of the BC communities, then at least fulfil 20 promises out of those 25 promises,' Subhash said.
Congress came up with the Kamareddy BC (Backward Classes) Declaration in 2023, which promised to increase BC reservations to 42 per cent from the existing 23 per cent in local bodies to provide 23,973 new political leadership positions for BCs in panchayats and municipalities, as per the data back then. Provide sub-categorisation in BC reservations in local bodies and a 42 per cent reservation for BCs in government civil construction and maintenance contracts.
The Revanth Reddy-led government passed the Bill providing for 42 per cent BC reservation in the local bodies, which awaits the President's assent.
Earlier on Thursday, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy warned the BJP-led central government against stalling the state's move to increase OBC reservation, stating, 'PM Modi should not stop our reservation.'
Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, Reddy accused the Centre of deliberately delaying presidential assent to the state's reservation bills.
'We are clearly saying PM Modi should not stop our reservation, if he continues, then we will dethrone PM Modi and make Rahul Gandhi and take the reservation,' he said.
He asserted that Rahul Gandhi had promised OBC reservations during the Bharat Jodo Yatra and that the Congress government in Telangana had fulfilled that promise after coming to power.
'After the Congress government was formed, we completed the process, and the resolution was passed,' Revanth Reddy said, adding that the Bills were sent to the Governor and later forwarded to the President for assent.
While the BJP flagged the Bill alleging reservation for Muslims, Reddy said, 'PM Modi didn't give an appointment. They are making excuses that it is a Muslim reservation bill. Our attempt to increase OBC reservation, but the BJP is trying to stop it by calling it Muslim reservation,' he said. (ANI)
