Patna (Bihar) [India], October 27 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday hit out at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav over his remarks on the Waqf (Amendment) Act, and said the people of Bihar understand the politics of Muslim appeasement.
He also called it an insult to Parliament and the Constitution of India.
Speaking to the reporters in Patna, Keshav Prasad Maurya said, 'This is an insult to the Parliament of India. This is an insult to the Constitution of India. The law has been made and he (Tejashwi Yadav) is saying that we will throw this law in the trash. The people of Bihar understand the disgusting politics of Muslim appeasement. The public will respond to this on November 6 and 11.'
Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav said that if the alliance comes to power in Bihar, it will throw the Waqf (Amendment) Act into the dustbin. RJD leader Qari Sohaib also claimed that the party's Chief Ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav would 'scrap the Waqf law' if elected Bihar Chief Minister.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was passed by Parliament after a marathon debate, with opposition parties opposing it. The President gave assent to the bill on April 5 this year.
The voting for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, whereas bye-elections for eight seats across seven states and Union Territories will be held on November 11. The results for both will be declared on November 14.
In Bihar, the main contest is between the ruling Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led NDA and the RJD-led opposition alliance 'Mahagathbandhan.'
NDA includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM).
Mahagathbandhan, led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), includes Congress, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI-ML) led by Deepankar Bhattacharya, the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), and Mukesh Sahani's Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP).
Additionally, Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj is also debuting in the fray. (ANI)
